US DOT & Truck Lettering

Federal rules require a commercial vehicle to carry the legal company name and the USDOT number on both sides, in a colour that contrasts with the truck and is readable from 50 feet in daylight. We cut and apply the whole set, and we do it fast, because a truck sitting in our lot is a truck not earning.

What goes on the door

At minimum the legal or DBA name and USDOT number. Depending on the authority and the state you run in, that set can also include MC, GVW, KYU, VIN, and unit numbers. Send us your paperwork and we will lay out the block so it stays legible at the required distance.

Cut vinyl, not printed stickers

Numbers are cut from solid outdoor-grade vinyl and weeded by hand, so there is no printed background to fade or peel at the edge. Applied over clean paint, they read the same in year three as in week one.

Owner-operators welcome

One truck is a normal job here, not an inconvenience. Most single-truck sets are a same-day or next-day turnaround once the artwork is confirmed.

Questions

Before you ask us

How big do the numbers have to be?

The federal standard is about legibility rather than a fixed height: the marking has to be readable from 50 feet in daylight while the vehicle is stationary. In practice that means 2-inch lettering as a floor, and we size up on larger trucks.

Can you remove the old set?

Yes. Old lettering and adhesive come off before the new set goes on, which matters most on trucks changing carriers.

Ready to get started?

Send the project type, location, size, and timeline. We will come back with a quote.
